Long Hill Township, located in southeastern Morris County, New Jersey, has a rich history dating back to the early 18th century. Originally part of the "Lord Stirling Grant," the area saw European settlers in the 1730s who established farms and mills along the Passaic River. During the Revolutionary War, local residents supported the Continental Army, with a beacon placed on the ridge to signal enemy movements. Incorporated as Passaic Township in 1866, it was renamed Long Hill Township in 1992 to reflect its geographic features and avoid confusion with the nearby city of Passaic. Today, Long Hill encompasses the communities of Gillette, Millington, Stirling, Meyersville, and Homestead Park. The township maintains its rural charm with preserved open spaces like the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge and historic sites such as the Boyle–Hudspeth-Benson House.
